NHS Lanarkshire provides a vast range of health services to more than half a million people. It is Scotland’s third-largest health board.
Within Lanarkshire there is also an integration joint board (IJB) for each local authority area, covering North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire. The IJBs are responsible for their delegated “integration functions”, which are essentially adult social care, all adult community health care and some hospital services for adults.
Each IJB prepares a strategic plan and then directs the NHS Board and the relevant local authority to carry it out.
NHS Lanarkshire has also entered into strategic partnerships with a number of Universities and has gained University Status from Glasgow Caledonian University, Strathclyde University and the University of the West of Scotland.
One of the major areas of focus continues to be delivering the vision to build a new state of the art University Hospital in Monklands. The relationships with stakeholders in the Lanarkshire area are a critical factor in getting this vision working well in the next years.
